"Wow, that was weird." There have been so many times in my life where I have woken up uttering those words from my mouth. In my years of interpreting dreams I have heard those words spoken in one way or another, typically as, "I had a really weird dream last night and I have no idea what it means." I usually respond with, "Fantastic! God is calling you into intimacy with him!"
This statement is usually followed by a German Shepherd style head tilt and an expression of, 'How in the world?" To most, that statement wouldn't make any sense but to you who are reading this blog, it surely will make sense in just a moment.
In order to understand how God is calling us into Intimacy with him through a weird dream, we have to understand a Key Idea.
1: God Conceals matters.
"It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter."
If you have had a dream where the meaning just eludes you at every grasp, the symbols just don't make sense, or you feel as though (as my Friend Amy states) you are grasping at smoke and you want to know why? proverbs 25:2 is the answer. God concealed a matter because that is his glory. Also in Hebrews 1:3, we see that Jesus is the radiance of God's glory. You cannot seek one without finding the other.
Interestingly, I have discovered that the word used for Glory in Proverbs 25 is the same Glory that Moses sought to have revealed to him in Exodus 33. By doing this God has bestowed upon us a great honor. We may now seek out the hidden things of God and reveal the same hidden Glory that Moses sought. The reason that God has given you a weird dream that is hard to understand is that he wants you to seek out the answer; He wants to have intimacy with you. By seeking out the answers it causes you to dig into his word, to pray and ask for help, to commune with him in an intimate way, and by doing this you are now unraveling the hidden glory of God and surrounding yourself in it, and in doing so you are learning more about God's nature and wrapping yourself in the Glory which is Jesus.
Too many people get confused by their dreams, get frustrated, give up, and then stop trying to interpret their dreams. What typically happens is they say, "I'm not good at interpreting," or "I can't interpret my own dreams!" To me, In my head that is wonderful. That means that you cannot rely on yourself anymore to get answers. Now you must rely on God to help you. When God doesn't just give us an answer to a question it creates a desire in our heart to get that answer. This causes us to seek the answer and in the process of drawing the conclusion to your primary question, you discover even more than you have originally set out to know.
These are the reasons why I believe having a 'Weird Dream' is God's beck and call to us to come into intimacy with him. Not having answers causes us to talk to him, to seek him, to spend time with him. It invokes us into being intimate with him by causing us to listen for his small still voice that is so easily drowned out by the world around us. Seeking the hidden matters of God, seeking the glory of God teaches you more and leads you into higher revelation from God.
